Abstract

A project is a collection of tasks aimed toward a set of objectives. It has a definable end point and finite life span. Project management techniques will be particularly useful when the project calls for interaction between divisions. In this chapter, we define project planning and the characteristics of a project. We clearly differentiate between projects and tasks. We discuss the influence of the overall strategy of the company on the project. We then understand how projects are planned and the various project planning tools that can be used to measure and monitor the progress of a project. We discuss the various organizational structures and learn what a projectized organization is.
