Universal feature of long-range correlations in DNA sequence : The intron-structure in a single gene

Abstract

We investigated the power spectrum of the intron-structure in a single gene over 70 genes in 9 biological classifications. Our results provided clear evidence that the intron-structure universally show 1/f spectrum in all classifications. To confirm this result, we showed that the long-range correlation is not effected where concerned with more than 2 genes. Universal of long-range correlations are connected with the origin of intron, i.e., the intron-late view. We suggest that the intron insertion system in a single gene is the origin of long-range correlations in DNA sequence, and that there is a possibility of self organized criticality in molecular evolution.
