Abstract

We report experimental evidence of convection rolls induced by the Marangoni effects in the bigwave (hydrochemical soliton) in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. It is caused by spatial inhomogeneity of surface tension between the front and the back of the chemical waves on the solution layer. We show concentration distributions of ferriin obtained from the two different waves such as the bigwave and the normal trigger wave. Surface tension distributions chemically originated are examined to explain the mechanism of flows. It is clear that the temperature difference on the surface due to the reaction must be taken into account.
