Abstract

Summary Cohort analysis is a method of estimating the age, period, and cohort effects from time-series social survey data. A Bayesian multinomial logit cohort (BMLC) model is presented to analyze categorical data obtained using a multiple choice question. The model is identical to the existing Bayesian logit cohort (BLC) model when the number of response categories equals two. Data on religious attitudes from a study of the Japanese national character is analyzed both by using the BLC model with each category separated, and by using the BMLC model on all categories simultaneously, to show the utility of the latter model.
