Abstract

Zusammenfassung Gegen Ende des Jahres 1873 machte Cantor eine Entdeckung, die alles verändern sollte: seine Forschungsrichtung und sein Leben, die Mathematik und die Philosophie. Er entdeckte, dass es im Unendlichen Abstufungen gibt, dass man in einem präzisen Sinne von „verschieden großen Unendlichkeiten“ reden kann. Die scharfsinnigsten Scholastiker hatten sich an diesem Problem versucht und waren alle gescheitert. Zwei Jahrhunderte nach ihnen hatte Galilei vor dieser Frage offen kapituliert.
