Abstract

Zusammenfassung Am 17. Februar 1600 wurde in Rom einer der radikalsten Wortführer des Unendlichen. Giordano Bruno, als Ketzer bei lebendigem Leib verbrannt. Dieser barbarische Akt eröffnete ein Jahrhundert, das einmal als glorreiches „Jahrhundert der wissenschaftlichen Revolution“ in die Geschichte eingehen sollte. Genau im Jahr des Brunoschen Feuertods erschien das Grund-Buch der modernen Experimentalphysik, das bahnbrechende Werk des Londoner Arztes William Gilbert Über den Magneten.
