Abstract

Zusammenfassung Topmanager in Unternehmen gehören sicherlich zu den am intensivsten diskutierten Akteuren unserer Gesellschaft, weil sie maßgeblich für den Erfolg von Unternehmen verantwortlich sind (Mackey 2008). Managementforscher fordern nach wie vor: „If we want to understand why organizations do the things they do, or why they perform the way they do, we must consider the biases and dispositions of their most powerful actors—their top executives” (Hambrick 2007, S. 334). In öffentlichen Diskussionen werden Topmanager allerdings häufig aufgrund von Verfehlungen Einzelner nach dem „Buhman-Prinzip“ für diverse Misserfolge von Unternehmen verantwortlich gemacht. Nur selten wird hinterfragt, welche psychischen und physischen Belastungen mit einer Position im Topmanagement verbunden sind - und diese nehmen im Zuge der Globalisierung und des damit verbundenen verschärften internationalen Wettbewerbs kontinuierlich zu.
