Abstract

Auszug Obwohl wir in unserer Umgebung in vielfältiger Weise dem Zufall ausgesetzt sind, waren es maßgeblich Fragen über Glücksspiele, die zu den ersten mathematischen Untersuchungen von zufälligen Erscheinungen führten. Abgesehen davon, dass es höchst attraktiv sein kann, Wege zum Gewinn zu suchen und zu finden, haben Glücksspiele auch den Vorteil, dass bei ihnen der Zufall in genau fixierten Bahnen wirkt. So ist die zufallsbedingte Ungewissheit, eine Sechs zu werfen, einfacher erfassbar als wenn es darum geht, ob am 12. Juli des nächsten Jahres ein Blitz in den Eiffelturm einschlagen wird. Das liegt in erster Linie daran, dass Glücksspiele unter gleichen Bedingungen reproduzierbar sind und theoretische Ergebnisse daher relativ einfach in Versuchsreihen überprüft werden können, wenn sie nicht ohnehin schon als Erfahrungstatsache bekannt sind.
