Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die klassische Messtheorie, eingeführt von Stevens (1946, 1951) und zur Blüte gebracht durch Krantz, Luce, Suppes und Tversky, geht von einem einfachen mathematischen Modell des Messvorgangs aus. Eine Menge W, welche die Realität (Welt) repräsentiert, wird durch eine feststehende Vorschrift s auf eine Menge Z von Zahlen abgebildet. Die Vorstellung ist, dass dabei einem realen Objekt a ∈ W eine Zahl z = s(a), sein Messwert, zugeordnet wird. Mathematisch gesehen ist s nichts anderes als eine Abbildung der Menge W in Z. Empirisch gesehen entspricht s einer Messvorschrift, welche determiniert, was wie gemessen wird. Das Ergebnis einer Messung ist ein numerischer Wert z, welcher via s auf der Realität ( also a) basiert. Deshalb charakterisiert Stevens jede Messung mit den Worten “[…] the assignment of numerals to things so as to represent facts […] about them” (siehe S. 14).
