Abstract

Abstrait « Cette Note a pour but d’abréger les calculs par lesquels MM. Hamilton et Jacobi ont fait voir que l’intégration des équations du mouvement d’un ou de plusieurs points matériels se ramène à la recherche d’une solution complète quelconque d’une certaine équation à différentielles partielles. M. Serret vient de démontrer le beau théorème de M. Jacobi pour Se cas où le principe des forces vives a lieu par une méthode nouvelle et ingénieuse, mais qui pourtant ne me paraît pas préférable à celle de M. Jacobi. Je considère l’équation à différentielles partielles pour des points libres et ensuite celle qui se rapporte à un système de points assujettis à des liaisons quelconques, en réduisant au plus petit nombre les variables qui fixent la position du système.
