Abstract

Abstrait «Deux beaux Mémoires sur la discussion des équations différentielles et à différences partielles, propres aux grands problèmes de la Physique mathématique, ont été du moins publiés en entier, grâce à mon insistance.» La postérité impartiale, les placera à côté des plus beaux Mémoires de Lagrange. «Voilà ce que j’ai dit et imprimé il y a vingt ans [Mémoires lu à l’Académie des Sciences par Liouville, le. 14 décembre 1836], et ce que je répète sans craindre qu’aujourd’hui personne vienne me reprocher d’être trop hardi».
