Abstract

Zusammenfassung Mit Hans Hahn, der am 24. VII. 1934 unerwartet in seinem 55. Lebensjahre starb), ist der Mathematik ein in vielen Richtungen erfolgreicher Forscher entrissen worden. Seine Jugendarbeiten enthalten bedeutsame Beiträge zur Variationsrechuung; eine andere Arbeit bezieht sich auf Funktionen zweier komplexer Veränderlicher; weiters hat er in zahlreichen Abhandlungen die Theorie der Reihen-und Integraldarstellungen bereichert und eine besonders bemerkenswerte und schöne Anwendung dieser Methoden auf das Interpolationsproblem gegeben (Math. Zeitschr. 1); wichtig sind seine Beiträge zum allgemeinen Funktionalkalktil; in der Elementargeometrie führte er den ersten auf Verknüpfungs-und Anordnungsaxiomen beruhenden lückenlosen Beweis des Jordan’schen Satzes für Polygone (Monatshefte f. Math. u. Phys. 19). Schon in allen den erwähnten Arbeiten (vgl. meinen Nachruf auf Hahn in den Ergebnissen eines math. Kolloquiums 6) zeigt sich Hahn als scharfer Logiker mit außerordentlich klarer Darstellungsgabe, Eigenschaften, welche auch seinen Bericht über die Theorie der linearen Integralgleichungen aus dein Jahre 1911 trotz der inzwischen erfolgten Fortschritte heute noch lesenswert machen.
