Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Flächen des euklidischen Raumes, die wir in den ÷÷ 20 bis 22 betrachtet haben, sind Beispiele zweidimensionaler Riemannscher Räume, wenn wir uns auf die Eigenschaften beschränken, die allein aus der ersten Grundform abgeleitet werden können. Wir bezeichnen die Parameter u, y jetzt mit u 1, u 2 oder zusammengefaßt mit u x , wobei die griechischen Indizes jetzt Repräsentar-ten der Zahlen 1 und 2 sein sollen. Diese Parameter sind Koordinaten auf der Fläche und treten an die Stelle der x i der §§ 34 bis 36; die im folgenden verwendeten x i sind rechtwinkelige kartesische Koordinaten im euklidischen R 3, die lateinischen Indizes laufen von 1 bis 3. Setzen wir 37,01 g 11 = E , g 12 = g 21 = F , g 22 = G , ]] s ˙ 2 = g α β u ˙ α u ˙ β , ]]
