Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Tensoren zweiter Stufe sind für die Anwendungen von solcher Bedeutung, daß wir jetzt an eine ausführlichere Behandlung ihrer besonderen Eigenschaften gehen wollen. Wir gehen dabei aus von der durch den gegebenen Tensor vermittelten Zuordnung von Vektoren, die wir hier als Abbildung oder Transformation von Vektorräumen auffassen. Es ergeben sich daraus völlig ungezwungen eine Reihe von fundamentalen Problemstellungen, wie z. B. die Bedeutung des Ranges eines Tensors, der inverse Tensor und die Tensorpotenzen, ferner die Frage der Eigenlösungen, d. h. der sich selbst entsprechenden Richtungen, die wieder bei den symmetrischen Tensoren von solcher Wichtigkeit sind, daß wir diese in § 14 gesondert behandeln.
