Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Tensorrechnung ist in der letzten Zeit sehr in Mode gekommen, nicht nur bei den Physikern, für die sie schon seit langem ein fast unentbehrliches Instrument geworden ist, sondern auch bei den Technikern, die ihre Vorzüge immer mehr zu schätzen wissen. Leider muß man aber bei der Durchsicht der Literatur nur zu oft eine mangelhafte, mitunter geradezu falsche Handhabung der Tensorrechnung feststellen. Es scheint vielfach die nötige Klarheit darüber zu fehlen, was eigentlich ein Tensor ist und wann die Begriffsbildungen der Tensorrechnung mit Vorteil Anwendung finden können. So werden, um nur einige Beispiele zu nennen, in einem recht bekannten Lehrbuch der technischen Mechanik sechs Ausdrücke als Komponenten des Spannungstensors bezeichnet, die niemals ein Tensor sein können, und in einem an anderer Stelle erschienenen Aufsatz über kritische Drehzahlen einer mit Schwungmassen belasteten Welle wird in einer geradezu grotesken Weise mit den Begriff en der Tensorrechnung herumgeworfen, ohne daß auch nur die geringste Berechtigung dazu besteht.
