Abstract

Zusammenfassung Unter den vielen schwierigen Fragen, die mit einer rationellen Grundlegung der Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie verknüpft sind, gibt es gewiß keine, in der solche Verwirrung herrschte, wie in der Frage nach dem Inhalt und der Bedeutung des „Gesetzes der großen Zahlen“ und seiner Beziehung zur Häufigkeitstheorie der Wahrscheinlichkeit. Die meisten Autoren pendeln zwischen den beiden Behauptungen, die Erklärung der Wahrscheinlichkeit eines Ereignisses als Grenzwert der relativen Häufigkeit seines Auftretens postuliere das Poissonsche Geseß und sie widerspreche ihm. Keines von beiden trifft zu.
