Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wo in unseren Schulen die Finger als Anschauungsmittel beim Zählen und Rechnen verwandt werden, gehen die Ansichten darüber auseinander, ob es zweckmäßiger ist, die Finger in einer fest vorgeschriebenen Ordnung beim Zählen, Addieren und Subtrahieren benutzen zu lassen, oder ob es nur darauf ankommt, daß die Kinder, gleichgültig in welcher Ordnung, stets die richtige Anzahl von Fingern vorweisen. Das Studium des Rechnens der Naturvölker könnte die erste Ansicht als die bessere erscheinen lassen, denn bei der Mehrzahl von ihnen sind die Gesten für die Zahlen so genau festgelegt, daß bei einem geringen Abweichen davon die in Frage stehenden Mengen manchmal schon nicht mehr erkannt werden. Die Assoziation zwischen Zahlvorstellung bzw. Zahlwort einerseits und Zahlgeste anderseits wird eben eine engere und verläuft schneller, wenn die in Frage kommende Geste immer in genau gleicher Weise ausgeführt wird.
