Abstract

Zusammenfassung Bis in die zweite Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts beherrschte die Spekulation stellarastronomische Forschungen. Erst die durch Bradleys (1692–1762) Wirken eingeleitete Entwicklung der neueren praktischen Astronomie öffnete sichere Wege, die über den Bereich des Sonnensystems hinaus in das Universum führten. Zwei Quellen sind es, aus denen unsere Kenntnisse über den Bau und die Vorgänge in dem unsere Sonne umgebenden System der Sterne und über seine Entwicklung fließen. Sie sind gegeben 1. im Ort der Sterne und seinen Änderungen mit der Zeit und 2. in dem von den Sternen uns zugesendeten Lichte nach Quantität und Qualität. Die Daten und charakteristischen Merkmale, die auf dieser Grundlage die praktische Astronomie der stellarastronomischen Forschung darbietet, zerfallen in zwei Kategorien: Unmittelbare und mittelbare Beobachtungsergebnisse.
