Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die darstellende (beschreibende oder deskriptive) Geometrie lehrt geometrische Gedanken durch graphische oder plastische Bilder ausdrücken. Sie umfaßt die den geometrischen Begriffen selbst entnommenen Mittel zur Bestimmung der Lagebeziehungen zwischen den geometrischen Elementen, der Gestalt und Größe der aus ihnen erzeugten höheren Gebilde oder Figuren. Sie ist also fürs erste, wie jede Sprache und Schrift, ein Verständigungsmittel im geistigen Verkehr. Sie war und ist im besonderen die Weltsprache der Ingenieure. Als eine rein geometrische Zeichensprache 1) aber bildet sie die Ergänzung der arithmetischen Symbolik oder Formelsprache. Ihre Entwicklungsgeschichte führt uns weit zurück bis zu den ersten Anfängen menschlicher Kultur. Denn erst der Versuch, Dinge abzubilden oder abzuzeichnen und primitive Abbildungen symbolisch zu gebrauchen, ließ die Schrift entstehen, wurde der Ursprung der bildenden Künste und in Verbindung mit dem Begriffe des Maßes die Grundlage der Geometrie.
