Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Ausdrücke Zufall und Wahrscheinlichkeit gehören zu den am häufigsten gebrauchten Worten und werden im Gedankenaustausch hingenommen, als ob ihre Bedeutung ganz klar wäre. Der Sprachgebrauch macht, allerdings nicht mit großer Strenge, den Unterschied, daß Zufall eine Eigenschaft des objektiven Geschehens, Wahrscheinlichkeit aber eine solche unserer Meinungen über dieses sei. Bei einiger Aufmerksamkeit merkt man leicht, daß die Bedeutung dieser Worte sehr wechselt. Oft bezeichnet ein Schriftsteller in verschiedenen Zusammenhängen mit diesen Worten ganz verschiedene Dinge, und aus den zahlreichen vorliegenden Erklärungen des Begriffes Zufall gewinnt man schwerlich den Eindruck, daß die verschiedenen Verfasser von demselben Gegenstande gesprochen haben können.
