Abstract

Zusammenfassung Ist die Vielfalt der Muster in der Natur Resultat verschiedener Ursachen und Effekte? Oder läßt sich ein einheitliches Bild zeichnen, in dem belebte wie unbelebte Systeme dieselben Prinzipien teilen? Erst im letzten Jahrzehnt beginnen sich zufriedenstellende Antworten auf diese Fragen herauszukristallisieren (vgl. Kap. 11 sowie [1, 2]). Die größte Herausforderung stellt für einen Wissenschaftler die Untersuchung lebender Systeme dar. Breiten Raum beansprucht dabei die Suche nach Regulations- und Kontrollprinzipien der Kommunikation, der entscheidenden Voraussetzung von Leben auf zellulärem und multizellulärem Niveau (vgl. Kap. 4 u. [3, 4]). Wie in jedem neuen Forschungsgebiet besteht eine erste Hürde in der Formulierung von Problemen, welche einfach genug sind, um mit Aussicht auf Erfolg gelöst zu werden.
