Abstract

Zusammenfassung Obwohl wir oft von den „drei“ großen ungelösten Problemen des Altertums gelesen haben, so waren es in Wirklichkeit vier Probleme: Quadratur des Kreises, Verdopplung des Würfels, Dreiteilung des Winkels und die Konstruktion des allgemeinen regelmäßigen Vielecks. Alle Probleme sollten mit Zirkel und Lineal gelöst werden, den einzigen in der Euklid-Geometrie zugelassenen Zeichengeräten. Zwei Jahrtausende blieben sie ungelöst, erst im 19. Jahrhundert wurde ihre Unlösbarkeit bewiesen. Zu beweisen, daß ein Problem nicht unter vorgeschriebenen Bedingungen und Regeln gelöst werden kann, ist an sich einer Lösung gleichwertig, insofern damit das Problem aus der Liste der unerledigten Angelegenheiten ein für allemal gestrichen werden kann.
