Abstract

Zusammenfassung Arbeitsmarkttheorien – wie ökonomische Theorien im Allgemeinen – verfolgen den Anspruch, allgemeingültige Erklärungen für individuelles Verhalten und gesamtwirtschaftliche Zusammenhänge zu liefern. Zentrales Analyseinstrument ist dabei das Modell des rationalen Akteurs, der Entscheidungen auf Grundlage von Kosten‐Nutzen‐Überlegungen im institutionenfreien Raum trifft. Doch ökonomisches Verhalten findet nicht im institutionenfreien Raum statt. Institutionen, verstanden als formelle und informelle „Spielregeln“ gesellschaftlichen Handelns, strukturieren den Handlungskontext ökonomischer Entscheidungen und prägen dadurch auch das Arbeitsmarktverhalten von Menschen. Was in einem Land als rational gilt, kann unter anderen institutionellen Bedingungen gänzlich andere Konsequenzen haben oder gar nicht möglich sein.
