Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Verantwortung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung des Planeten Erde haben neben der Politik – für die Gestaltung globaler, aber auch nationaler Rahmenbedingungen, den Individuen – für erforderliche Anpassungen ihrer Lebensgewohnheiten auch die Unternehmen zu übernehmen. Sie drückt sich aus in einem dreistufigen Nachhaltigkeitsbegriff, der Orientierung in einem normativen Leitbild bietet, heutige Lebenschancen zu vermehren, ohne zukünftige zu beeinträchtigen, der sich im Modus beständiger Reform konkretisiert durch die Beteiligung der Betroffenen (Stakeholder) in Strategien und Maßnahmen etwa für Klimaschutz, Ressourcenschonung und die Achtung der Menschenrechte. Die empirische Untersuchung von Nachhaltigkeitsberichten hat gezeigt, dass die Unternehmen langfristig auf den Weg nachhaltigen Wirtschaftens eingebogen sind und Nachhaltigkeit zu einem Teil ihrer Unternehmensstrategien gemacht haben.
