Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wolfgang Schmid (*1956 in Geislingen an der Steige) war von 2012 bis 2020 der Vorsitzende der Deutschen Statistischen Gesellschaft. Davor war er Mitglied des Vorstands und von 1998 bis 2002 Vorsitzender des Ausschusses „Statistik in Naturwissenschaft und Technik“. Wolfgang Schmid hat in Ulm Mathematik mit Nebenfach Statistik studiert und dort auch promoviert und habilitiert. Nach kurzen Zwischenaufenthalten in Konstanz, Trier und Stuttgart ist er seit 1995 ordentlicher Professor und Inhaber des Lehrstuhls „Quantitative Methoden, insbesondere Statistik“ an der Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). Daneben war er mehrfach Gastprofessor an der Universität Bergamo in Italien. Er hat bisher 25 Dissertationen betreut. Zwölf ehemalige Doktoranden bzw. Mitarbeiter haben eine Hochschulkarriere eingeschlagen und sind als Professoren in Deutschland, England, Holland, Schweden und der Ukraine tätig.
