Abstract

Zusammenfassung Volker Mammitzsch (*1938 in Leipzig) kam wie viele der in dieser Reihe interviewten deutschen Statistiker und Statistikerinnen erst über Umwege zu dieser Wissenschaft. Da in der DDR nicht zur Oberschule zugelassen, machte er das Abitur erst nach einer Lehre als Betriebselektriker inklusive Facharbeiterprüfung, nachdem die Familie nach München umgezogen war. Dort studierte er von 1957 bis 1962 Mathematik und Physik für das höhere Lehramt. Von 1961–1973 war er wissenschaftlicher Assistent, später Akademischer Rat bzw. Wissenschaftlicher Rat und Professor an der LMU, unterbrochen von Gastaufenthalten bzw. Lehrstuhlvertretungen an der Penn State University (USA), der TH Karlsruhe und der Universität Münster. Von 1973 bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2006 lehrte und forschte Volker Mammitzsch dann als Universitäts-Professor (C4) an der Philipps-Universität Marburg. Weitere Lehr- und Forschungsaufenthalte führten ihn an die Tongji-Universität Shanghai (China), an die University of California at Davis (USA) und an die International University Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt (Vietnam).
