Abstract

Soft- and hardware regulate the architecture underlying the internet. In the digital world, a piece of software determines the course of things. It is not surprising that the impression can arise that a program code defines conditions that are considered inviolable. Blockchain technology as one facet of digitalization cannot escape this approach. And yet there is more to technology in the broader sense than “just” writing program lines. Therefore, this chapter reflects on the statement what “The code is the law” means in the context of blockchain technology.
