Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Zahl neuer Krebsdiagnosen und die Zahl von Menschen, die an Krebs sterben, steigt in den meisten Ländern der Erde kontinuierlich an. Es ist dabei sehr schwer, für einen bestimmten Krebsfall die bestmögliche Behandlung zu finden, da es sich bei Krebs nicht um eine einzelne Krankheit handelt, sondern um sehr viele verschiedene Krankheiten, die alle unter dem Überbegriff Krebs zusammengefasst werden. Aber statistischen Methoden können dabei helfen, Klassen von Patienten zu finden, die sich anhand genetischer Merkmale ähnlich sind. Für manche solcher Unterklassen gibt es dann eine zielgerichtete Therapie, welche die Genetik der Patienten berücksichtigt, so dass die Krankheit erfolgversprechender behandelt werden kann.
