Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die ICE-Katastrophe von Eschede im Juni 1998 mit mehr als 100 Toten hat gezeigt, welche Folgen auftreten können, wenn ein technisches Produkt versagt. Dabei war nur ein Rad durch Materialermüdung gebrochen. Daraufhin wurden viele Züge für längere Zeit aus dem Verkehr gezogen, woraus ein Verkehrschaos entstand. War das überhaupt nötig? Und hätte man das Unglück durch bessere Zuverl ässigkeitsanalyse vermeiden können? Dazu hat die Statistik einiges zu sagen.
