Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wenn man das Unendliche in seiner Funktion für das Leibnizsche Denken mit einem kurzen Schlagwort charakterisieren möchte, dann kann man es mit der dialektischen Methode und ihrer Funktion für die Philosophie Hegels vergleichen. Innerhalb des Leibnizschen Gedankengebäudes ist das Unendliche so etwas wie die Treppen, wodurch die verschiedenen, scheinbar heterogenen Teile miteinander verbunden und in Zusammenhang gebracht werden. In den Nouveaux Essais bezeichnet es Leibniz als die „maxime fondamentale“ (A VI, 6, 490) seiner Philosophie, dass der Grund der Dinge überall derselbe ist, während „les manieres et les degrés de perfection varient à l’infini“.
