Abstract

Zusammenfassung Es ist immer wieder die Meinung zu hören, Leibniz’ Infinitesimalrechnung beruhe auf unsicheren Grundlagen. Gelegentlich wird diese Aussage durch den Hinweis auf die in letzten Jahrzehnten entwickelte und auch für den Mathematikhistoriker sehr interessante Nichtstandard-Analysis (Schmieden/Laugwitz 1958; Robinson 1966) zu relativieren versucht. Aber die Begründungs- und Argumentationsweisen von Leibniz’ Infinitesimalrechnung und der Nichtstandard-Analysis sind doch deutlich unterschieden, – ganz abgesehen davon, dass eine mit rund dreihundertjähriger Verspätung gelieferte Begründung den Vorwurf der fehlenden Grundlagen doch eher bestätigt als relativiert.
