Abstract

Zusammenfassung Nach Aristoteles, Descartes und Pascal ist Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz der letzte bedeutende Philosoph, der zu den führenden Mathematikern und Naturwissenschaftlern seiner Zeit gezählt werden kann. Seine Naturphilosophie ist jedoch in enger Beziehung zur Metaphysik entworfen und ließe sich nur zum kleineren Teil aus den naturwissenschaftlichen Beiträgen im engeren Sinn erschließen. Als Philosoph, der immer wieder Gegensätze in harmonischer Synthese zu vereinigen suchte, hat Leibniz Gedanken sowohl der aristotelischscholastischen Tradition als auch der kausalanalytischen und mechanistischen Denkweise des 17. Jahrhunderts aufgenommen.
