Abstract

Zusammenfassung Nachdem wir einige Grundtatsachen in Erinnerung gerufen haben, wollen wir die Besonderheiten einer Fraunhofer-Forschung auf dem Gebiet der Berechnung vorstellen und einige wesentliche Erfordernisse bzw. Kriterien einer solchen Forschung formulieren. Wir beginnen mit der Gittererzeugung und der Diskretisierung. Wegen ihrer wichtigen Rolle im Institut werden die sog. Mikrostruktursimulation gesondert behandelt. Mehrere Abteilungen arbeiten mit Multiskalen-Problemen, weshalb wir dieses Thema als nächstes behandeln. Effiziente Methoden für Probleme der Bildverarbeitung werden kurz erwähnt. Auch in diesem Teil werden wir immer wieder auf die Unterschiede zwischen der Forschung am Fraunhofer ITWM und der akademischen Forschung hinweisen. Schließlich reflektieren wir ein wenig über das Thema „Validierung“ der Modelle und der Algorithmen.
