Abstract

This paper provides an analysis of an existing parking lot in one of Dubai’s major shopping mall. Dubai has won the opportunity to host EXPO 2020 which is likely to attract more visitors to the shopping malls in the future thereby increasing the pressure on the parking facilities. A mathematical analysis of this problem is done to explore the possible solutions. The concept of queuing theory satisfies the model when tested in real time situation. The concepts of arrival rate, service rate, utilization rate, waiting time in the system, average number of vehicles in the queue, using Little’s Theorem and M/M/s queuing model along with simulation software have been used to suggest an empirical solution. The aim of the paper is twofold, (i) To assess the present situation at the Mall and (ii) To provide recommendations to reduce the queues in the parking areas.
