Abstract

Zusammenfassung Bei der Untersuchung der Beleuchtung und des Schattens eines für Licht undurchlässigen Körpers setzen wir parallele geradlinige Lichtstrahlen voraus. Wir sehen ab sowohl von den feineren Helligkeitsunterschieden, die von dem Einfallswinkel der Lichtstrahlen abhängen, als auch von allen Abweichungen, die durch zerstreutes Licht hervorgerufen werden, und begnügen uns mit der folgenden groben Unterscheidung: Ist der Körper durch ein konvexes Vielflach begrenzt, so zerfallen die ebenen Teile seiner Oberfläche in zwei Gruppen; die einen sind dem Licht zugekehrt und beleuchtet; die anderen, vom Licht abgewendeten, Hegen im Eigenschatten des Körpers. Beide Gruppen stoßen in einem Kantenznge, der Eigenschattengrenze, zusammen.
