Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Aufgabe der darstellenden Geometrie ist es, zu lehren, wie man von körperlichen Gegenständen flächenhafte Bilder herstellen kann. Solange solche Bilder keinen anderen Zweck haben, als daß sie den Beschauer an die dargestellten Gegenstände erinnern sollen, genügt es, sie nach dem Gefühl zu entwerfen. Soll aber ein Bild zwingende Rückschlüsse auf die geometrischen Eigenschaften des dargestellten Gegenstandes erlauben, soll es also für die genaue Untersuchung dieser Eigenschaften den körperlichen Gegenstand, der vielleicht nicht zur Hand oder überhaupt noch gar nicht verwirklicht ist, ersetzen können, so müssen seine planimetrischen Eigenschaften mit den stereometrischen Eigenschaften des Körpers durch mathematische Gesetze verknüpft sein.
