Abstract

Zusammenfassung In den mathematischen Arbeiten des Archimedes spielt der Schwerpunktsbegriff eine ganz besonders große Rolle. Nicht nur, daß Archimedes das Genre der Schwerpunktsbestimmungen ebener und räumlicher Gebilde sehr intensiv gepflegt hat; er hat auch die Mehrzahl seiner Flächeninhalts- und Volumenbestimmungen unter Benutzung des Hebelgesetzes ausgeführt, und seine Ephodos insbesondere, die uns einen Blick in seine Arbeitskammer hat tun lassen, zeigt, wie stark er gerade beim Auffinden der Tatsachen und Beweise sich dieses Hilfsmittels bedient hat.
