Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wenn es regnet, ist es naß; wenn es naß ist, braucht es nicht geregnet zu habeni. Dieses Beispiel pflegt man zu benutzen, um Kindern den Unterschied von Satz und Umkehrung zu verdeutlichen. So einleuchtend er in dieser Formel erscheint, so wenig wird er im gewöhnlichen Leben klar gehandhabt. Menschen, denen die Sache natürlich sonnenklar ist, sowie man sie ihnen ins Bewußtsein bringt, scharfsinnige Juristen sogar sah ich sie in der unbewußten Praxis des gewöhnlichen Verkehrs verwechseln; bei politischen Rednern fand ich solche Verwechselung wieder als geschicktes Mittel, um den vom Gegner aufgestellten Satz in dessen Umkehrung zu jonglieren und dann lächerlich zu machen, und eine vielköpfige Menge bemerkte es nicht. Wir Mathematiker wissen es aus der Praxis unseres Unterrichts genau: den beginnenden Studenten der Mathematik müssen wir systematisch erst dazu erziehen, auch im Unterbewußtsein diese Verwechselung nicht zu begehen.
