Abstract

Zusammenfassung An der Dampfmaschine von James Watt befand sich ein merk­würdiger Hilfsmechanismus, das Wattsche Parallelogramm genannt, dessen Gestalt in Fig. 64 schematisch angegeben ist. Der Apparat besteht aus Stangen, die durch die Gelenke C, D, E, F verbunden sind. In A und B sind die Stangen drehbar befestigt. Alle Gelenke haben Achsen, die senkrecht zur Zeichenebene zu denken sind1. In F greift die Kolbenstange an. Der Apparat hat den Zweck, dem Endpunkt F der Kolbenstange eine geradlinige Bewegung zu erteilen, die nötig ist, damit sich der Kolben im Zylinder weder lockert noch klemmt. Es stellt sich nun bei mathematischer Nach­prüfung leicht heraus, daß durch den Gelenkmechanismus des Wattschen Parallelo­gramms der Punkt F keineswegs genau geradlinig geführt wird, daß aber immerhin diese Bewegung in einem gewissen engen Bereich als annähernd gerade anesehen werden kann, so daß also doch die technischen Anforderungen an eine Geradführung durch diesen Mechanismus einigermaßen erfüllt waren.
