Abstract

Zusammenfassung Dieses Kapitel eröffnet die zentrale Frage des Buches: Was ist Unternehmenserfolg und wie verläuft der Weg dorthin? Unternehmenserfolg ist kein objektiv messbares Resultat, sondern ein von Anspruchsgruppen unterschiedlich definiertes Konstrukt. Eigentümer, Kunden, Mitarbeitende und die Öffentlichkeit verbinden damit jeweils eigene Erwartungen. Entsprechend lässt sich Unternehmenserfolg weder eindeutig definieren noch in allgemeingültige Handlungsschritte übersetzen. Ungeachtet dieser begrifflichen Unschärfe zeigt das Kapitel, dass der Weg zum Unternehmenserfolg durch Führungskräfte geprägt wird. Sie treffen Entscheidungen und gestalten Bedingungen, unter denen individuelle Leistungen entstehen können. Zur Frage, wie Führungskräfte dies leisten können, existieren zahlreiche Konzepte und Ansätze. Da sie meist isoliert nebeneinanderstehen, stiften sie in der Praxis jedoch häufig mehr Verwirrung als Orientierung. Ein Ordnungsrahmen entsteht, wenn Unternehmenserfolg von seiner kleinsten Einheit aus gedacht wird: von individuellen Leistungen. Vier zentrale Management-Aufgaben verantworten deren Auslösung und Koordination. Dazu gehören die Gestaltung von Organisationsstrukturen, die Prägung der informalen Organisation, der Aufbau und die Lenkung von Humanressourcen sowie die Realisierung von Transformationen. Ihr Zusammenspiel bildet das Grundmodell des Unternehmenserfolgs, das im Verlauf des Buches systematisch entfaltet wird.
