Abstract

ZusammenfassungStrategische Ziele scheitern systematisch: Empirische Studien weisen Erfolgsquoten von nur 10 bis 20 Prozent aus. Gleichzeitig sind die Unternehmen, die regelmäßig ihre gesetzten Ziele erreichen, wirtschaftlich erfolgreicher. Dieses Kapitel legt die Grundlagen, um diese Lücke zu verstehen, und führt die beiden historisch unabhängigen Wurzeln unseres heutigen Zielverständnisses zusammen: Druckers Management by Objectives als Alignment-Instrument und die durch Locke und Latham geprägte Goal Setting Theory als Modell individueller Leistungssteigerung. Darauf aufbauend werden die drei Funktionen strategischer Ziele dargelegt – Alignment, Autonomie und Leistungssteigerung – sowie die fünf wiederkehrenden Ursachen, an denen Zielarbeit in Unternehmen regelmäßig scheitert.
