Abstract

ZusammenfassungTeil III verfolgt die lebhaften Diskussionen um die Kultur des Tauschs in der europäischen Aufklärung. in ihrem vielstimmigen Diskurs gewinnt die marktwirtschaftliche Utopie ihre bis heute wirkende Kraft der Erzählung. Die Verschwisterung im Gemeinsinn, wie sie in der Europa-Hymne leicht verloren, aber immer noch begeisterungsfähig nachklingt, wird in drei Kapiteln interpretiert. Kap. 7 stellt zunächst den utopischen Tausch als eine grundlegende republikanische Idee vor. Kunsthistorisch tritt sie im Gewand des Rokokos auf. Im Mittelpunkt stehen zwei Gemälde des französischen Malers Antoine Watteau, der Aufbruch nach Kythera und der Pierrot.
