Abstract

From the perspective of the sponsored parties, arts and cultural sponsorship is an element within the funding mix. This mix consists of various financing instruments, which can be divided into primary and secondary operating income. In addition to public funding from the federal government, states, and municipalities, financing instruments also include private third-party funds such as donations and own revenues. The relevance of each financing instrument depends on the objectives and sponsorship of the cultural institutions. In addition to various practical examples, the strategy and approach of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig are presented in detail as a case study.
