Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wirtschaftszyklen bezeichnen wiederkehrende, aber nicht regelmäßige Schwankungen der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Aktivität. Ihre klassische Definition stammt von Burns und Mitchell, die Zyklen als Abfolge von Expansion, Rezession, Kontraktion und Erholung verstehen. Historisch wurden Konjunkturschwankungen zunächst als Zufälle betrachtet, ehe Ökonomen wie Sismondi, Marx und später Schumpeter und Keynes sie als systemimmanente Phänomene kapitalistischer Volkswirtschaften deuteten. Im 20. Jahrhundert trugen empirische Arbeiten und theoretische Fortschritte zur differenzierten Analyse bei. Heute vereint die Konjunkturtheorie vielfältige Ansätze, von neoklassisch bis keynesianisch, ergänzt durch verhaltens- und finanzmarktbasierte Perspektiven.
