Abstract

Corporate foresight enables organizations to identify and implement proactive changes that create new competitive advantages. In the context of disruptive technological change, a more exploratory and future-oriented approach is needed in procurement. Therefore, this paper examines the concept of corporate foresight through a case study of a confectionery manufacturer. It provides a scientifically based and practically integrated perspective on the role of procurement in the digital era. A four-step methodological procedure is conducted to identify and prioritize the ten most significant changes, as well as to develop four future scenarios with strategic insights. Thereby, it highlights that an adaptive business system, characterized by a coupled and digitally driven landscape, presents major challenges for foresight practices. Within this context, it is essential to balance open-ended and present-focused perspectives to provide new ways of navigating in a digitalized future.
