Abstract

Zusammenfassung Kenia verzeichnete einen deutlichen Anstieg der Internetdurchdringung – von 28 % im Jahr 2020 auf 40,8 % im Jahr 2024. Dies hat das digitale Verhalten der Generation Z maßgeblich geprägt. Diese technikaffine Generation, die rund 80 % der Bevölkerung ausmacht, nutzt soziale Medien u. a. gezielt, um politische, soziale und institutionelle Normen herauszufordern. Ihr digitaler Aktivismus beschränkt sich dabei nicht nur auf politische Themen, sondern richtet sich auch gegen religiöse Führungspersonen, öffentliche Institutionen sowie gegen strukturelle Probleme wie Korruption, Vetternwirtschaft und sozioökonomische Ungleichheiten. Die Ergebnisse der Studie, die in diesem Beitrag beschrieben wird, zeigen, dass die Gen Z in Kenia besonders anpassungsfähig und unternehmerisch eingestellt ist. Sie strebt nach sinnstiftender Arbeit und nutzt digitale Plattformen sowohl zur Einkommensgenerierung als auch zur Entwicklung neuer Kompetenzen und zum bürgerschaftlichen Engagement. Ihr aktiver Einsatz im Online-Aktivismus, insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit dem Finanzgesetz 2024–2025, verdeutlicht ihre Rolle als aufstrebende Akteure der Zivilgesellschaft, die die soziopolitische und wirtschaftliche Landschaft Kenias nachhaltig beeinflussen.
