Abstract

Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag betont die wachsende Bedeutung öffentlicher Wirtschafts- und Politikdaten für Unternehmensentscheidungen. Indizes und Datenbanken liefern wertvolle Hinweise zu Marktchancen, politischen Risiken, Nachhaltigkeitstrends und regionalen Unterschieden. Die Vielzahl frei zugänglicher oder kommerzieller Datensätze – von Weltbank bis spezialisierten Anbietern – erfordert jedoch eine sorgfältige Auswahl. Entscheidend sind Repräsentativität, Validität, Aktualität und räumliche Auflösung. Zudem ist die Motivation der Datenanbieter kritisch zu prüfen, da Daten auch als Marketinginstrument dienen können. Genannte Beispiele reichen von volkswirtschaftlichen Gesamtdaten über Regime-Indizes, politischen Ereignisdaten und Daten zur Messung von Korruption bis hin zu Naturrisiko-Indikatoren. Das Fazit: Wer Daten methodisch reflektiert nutzt und regelmäßig aktualisiert, kann Risiken früh erkennen, Chancen nutzen und Fehlentscheidungen vermeiden
