Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Autorin beleuchtet die drängende Herausforderung des Umwelt- und Klimaschutzes und betont dabei die Rolle der Zivilgesellschaft. Bisher eingeleitete Maßnahmen sind nicht ausreichend. Die Deutsche Umwelthilfe kämpft für saubere Luft, gegen die Vermüllung durch Einwegverpackungen und setzt sich unermüdlich für Mehrweglösungen ein. Sie fordert eine drastische Reduzierung der Flächenversiegelung und setzt sich für die Durchgrünung unserer Städte ein. Zusätzlich kämpft sie für die Förderung dezentral erzeugter erneuerbarer Energien auf ohnehin bereits versiegelten Flächen und die Vereinfachung der Installation von Balkonsolarmodulen für Mieterinnen und Mieter. Bei allen Unterschieden von Rollen und Vorgehen sind Kommunen letztlich Teil der Zivilgesellschaft und für das Wohlergehen ihrer Bürger:innen verantwortlich. Dabei profitieren sie von starken Nichtregierungsorganisationen unterstützt durch eine unabhängige Presse und Justiz, auch wenn die Auseinandersetzungen zur Durchsetzung von Recht und Gesetz und angemessenem Handeln mitunter unbequem sind.
