Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das ESG-Konzept (Environmental, Social, Governance) gewann erstmals 2004 durch die „Who Cares Wins“-Initiative der Vereinten Nationen an Bedeutung, wobei Kofi Annan zu freiwilligen Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen aufrief. Der ökologische Aspekt von ESG wurde schon in den 1960er-Jahren thematisiert, insbesondere hinsichtlich der Klimakrise. Heute gewinnen ESG-Kriterien durch zunehmende Klimarisiken und wirtschaftliche Trends weiter an Relevanz. Im sozialen Bereich reichen die Ursprünge bis ins 18. Jahrhundert zurück, während der Governance-Aspekt globale und nationale Rahmen für eine verantwortliche Unternehmensführung umfasst. ESG hat sich zu einem wichtigen Thema für institutionelle Investoren entwickelt, die zunehmend Nachhaltigkeitsziele fordern. Besonders in Deutschland zeigt sich die wachsende Bedeutung von ESG im Anstieg nachhaltiger Investmentfonds.
