Abstract

Zusammenfassung Europa befindet sich seit eineinhalb Jahrzehnten im Modus der Krisenbewältigung: Der globalen Finanzkrise (2008/09) folgten die Eurokrise (2010–2012), die Flüchtlings- und Migrationskrise (2015/16), die Schritte zum Brexit (2016–2020), die weltweite Coronakrise ab 2020 und schließlich der Angriffskrieg Russlands auf die Ukraine (2022). Die dadurch ausgelöste Energiekrise hat das Bewusstsein für den drohenden Klimawandel geschärft. Im Spiegel der Krisen verlaufen Schwankungen im Bekenntnis zu einer nationenübergreifenden Europaidee, die für die Zukunft der Europäischen Union (EU) unterschiedliche Entwicklungspfade – von einer auf wenige Mitglieder reduzierten „Kernunion“ bis zur Annäherung aller Mitglieder an eine volle politische Gemeinschaft – als möglich erscheinen lassen.
